George Fetner and the Strays

Soulful, brassy southern rock.

“There’s a lot you could say about the varied pursuits of guitarist/bandleader/composer George Fetner. But the most pressing takeaway here is that he and his merry band of pranksters in the Strays can burn down a stage with glee - less of a jam band than an omnivorous, chops-heavy rock outfit whose eclecticism is presented with uncommon acuity. Expect a blaze of a set from a group that knows just when to sprawl out and, conversely, when to make a sharp left turn” - Free Times, 10/2019

Columbia, SC’s George Fetner and the Strays have steadily gained attention from music-lovers and musicians alike. Culling influences from eight proficient members, the band hones in on a big, seasoned sound, not unlike Steely Dan, Wilco, or St. Paul and the Broken Bones. The band’s self-titled debut EP (2018) showcases a variety of distinct musical jaunts threaded by Fetner’s lyrical reveries; their first LP, Longer Like This, extends the exploration of meaningful songwriting through the varied influences of a seasoned nine-piece ensemble. This is well-crafted, energetic, bright-eyed rock at its finest.

“In their opening song, ‘No Longer You’ll Feel So Alone,’ the band’s joyful vibe and experimental sound spill out from the speakers, filling the room and pulling the listener to their feet in an impromptu dance party with nine of Columbia’s most daring musical exhibitionists.” - The State

“George and The Strays have created something unique and new. I dare say that 'Longer Like This' is something entirely distinct altogether and stretches the limits of genres and categories. - jambandpurist.com

“The record is a jammin’ number ripe with horns and influences from across the laid-back music spectrum. - extrachill.com
