Let the Words Be Yours (2024) by TenMileRide

“It looks like there are enough Grateful Dead cover bands out there and I don’t really want to go down that route. I’d rather do something that could be in the moment, but we’re not improvising like the Grateful Dead were improvising, we’re improvising like WE play. I think it’s just about the spirit of improvisational music, which is a huge part of the Grateful Dead.

“In fact, TenMileRide typically plays its instrumental sets straight through for 45 minutes to an hour, melding classic Dead riffs and melodies with their own furious improvisation. Just like the Dead, this band never plays the same show twice. (Vincent Harris, Free Times)

Merry Run Around (2021)

The end goal, it always seems, is to tickle the pleasure buds of Deadheads while smoothing out some of the rougher edges and simply doing what the band is good at. And while you might quibble with that approach, there’s no denying that it packs a powerful punch.

Take their rendition of “They Love Each Other,” which is where the album draws its name. After establishing the song’s familiar groove, a stone-cold saxophone solo pulls the tune into its middle improv section, where Moses Andrews’ organ takes the audience to church before handing things off to Fetner for another lengthy six-string workout and then pulling things all back in again for a swoonful conclusion. It’s both utterly unlike anything you would ever hear at a Dead concert and yet wonderfully, soothingly familiar to fans and newcomers alike. - Free Times

Longer Like This (2020)

Longer Like This maintains the bright-eyed quest for balancing meaningful songwriting with the varied influences of a seasoned nine-piece ensemble. Tracked to tape during the summer and fall of 2019, it was mixed and produced by Zac Thomas (Kylesia, Florida Man, She Returns From War) at Columbia’s own Jam Room Recording Studio. Stefan Heger mastered the album for vinyl and digital release at Fisheye Music Mastering (D’Angelo, Bhakti Without Borders, Martin Solveig).

G.F.A.T.S (2018)

The debut EP by George Fetner and the Strays is a full, upbeat rock effort. These six songs display the smattering of George’s popular music styles. Guest musicians include Brian Sansbury (of Patrick Davis), Ethan Fogus (The Witness Marks) and Mark Rapp (SC Jazz Ambassador, ColaJazz). Released February 23, 2018.

Some Things We’ll Change (2017)

Released March 2, 2017, this is George’s debut solo record. Seven songs made up of just guitar and voice combining folk and classical styles. “George Fetner’s Some Things We’ll Change’s cerebral compositions bridge a perfect gap between modern pop song and melodic complexity.” (Ethan Fogus, No Depression

Beneath the Ice (2015)

2015 electroacoustic release featuring works composed, recorded, mixed and mastered by George and performed by University of South Carolina alumni and faculty. “Ice is blocky, still, inert: Fetner’s music is not - rather, it is lucid, transparent, and liquid; it is a voyage into intimate, personal worlds.” (Tom Dempster, Jasper Magazine)
